Basic Electrical Safety

Description

This training will provide a foundational understanding of basic electrical hazards, safe work practices when working around electricity, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures to prevent electrical accidents. Participants will learn about electrical shock, arc flash, and other electrical hazards, as well as safe work practices and the importance of LOTO procedures for maintaining electrical safety.

Learning Objectives

On completion of this course, you will be able to

• Discuss the electrical hazards to which employees may be exposed at work.

• Discuss and explain the basic terms and understanding of electricity.

• Discuss the effects of electrical current on the body.

• Discuss and explain the dangers of electrical shock.

• Describe protective measures used to guard against electrical hazards.

• Discuss the importance of ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI).

• Describe safe work practices when working near electrical circuits.

• Describe lockout/tagout procedures for protection against unexpected startup.

• Discuss safe work practices when working near high voltage power lines.

• Identify training requirements for electrical workers.

This course is recommended for all employees or supervisors working with or around electrical hazards in their daily work.
