This course is designed for the attendees to learn the basic physics, biological effects, beam hazards, non-beam hazards, and control measures for safe laser environments. This medical laser safety awareness course is for those who are new to the field. It provides an understanding of basic laser science and the components of commonly used medical lasers and their delivery systems.

• Identify what “LSO” stands for

• Identify properties of laser light

• Define ‘energy’ and ‘power’

• Recognize laser hazard classes

• Recognize behaviours of laser light

• Identify hazards posed to the eyes and skin

• Identify six common control measures

• Recognize laser safety signs

• Understand how to read OD on eyewear
